Gary Floyd (The Dicks)

Posted in Obituaries on May 7, 2024

Gary Floyd, singer of The Dicks (and many additional groups), passed away last week at the age of 71 due to congestive heart failure.

Jello Biafra, who is commonly associated with The Dicks' primary label, Alternative Tentacles, issued the following statement:

Failing health or not, this is still a massive shock.

Out Queerpunk from the very beginning. Flamboyant, fierce; and a deeply spiritual being who did so much to lift so many hearts and spirits.

A singer's singer, truly. Punk, Southern Rock grunge, and especially the Blues. It all came from the blues, and he could touch and penetrate like no other.

He and Ricky Williams (Sleepers) were the best and most gifted voices the Bay Area punk scene ever produced. No one else comes close.

And yeh, he was the sassiest queen I ever met in my life.

Fly high and free wherever you are,
-Biafra
