Taylor Young (Twitching Tongues / Nails / Young Bros Recordings)
What are your top five albums that were released in 2011? (in order 1-5)
- Disma - Towards the Megalith
- Harm's Way - Isolation
- Fell to Low - Sensible Sounds of Men
- Horse Marriage - Eisenhower Interstate
- Disma - The Manifestation 7"
What band did you discover in 2011 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
Disma. The absolute hardest death metal band I've heard in a long time. They take a heavier spin on the classic death metal sound and remove a lot of the boring parts that ruin some bands for me. The pits and riffs are there and his vocals are insane. This is exactly what I want from music as a whole, and they drove me and those around me to write harder music. We'll still never compare.
How will you remember 2011 (in terms of music)?
Lots of good hardcore records and 7"s and probably the most touring I've ever done in one year. This is also the first year where most of my recordings weren't demos but 7"s and LP's - Rotting Out, Soul Search, Xibalba, World of Pain, Expire, Minus, Ruckus, Twitching Tongues, Minority Unit.
What can we look forward to from you in 2012?
Lots more touring, recordings and music. Twitching Tongues will have a 7" precursor to our next LP, Nails will have new music, Xibalba is in the midst of tracking their LP and I've got some other awesome stuff scheduled. I'm also singing a band called Disgrace that will be releasing a 12" EP early next year.
What records are you looking forward to most in 2012?
Off the top of my head: Creatures, Disma vinyl, Funebrarum, Hooded Menace, Fell to Low, Minus, Black Breath, Candlemass, Power Trip, Eddie Brock, Stout
What did you expect to be huge in 2011 which never made it?
Mob Mentality. Baltimore's greatest secret. RIP.
