Patrick Eaton (Old Problems)
What are your top five albums that were released in 2011? (in order 1-5)
I always have a terrible time ranking bands/albums in a descending order but here it goes for 2011:
- Weekend Nachos - Worthless
- Pulling Teeth - Funerary
- Griever - Inferior
- Withdrawal - Faith, Flesh, Blood
- Agitator - Walls Closing In
- (Because I couldn't decide) The Deep Dark Woods- The Place I Left Behind
What band did you discover in 2011 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
Greiver - This band got me excited about writing music again. Ironically they sound nothing like my band, but their simplistic and straight ahead approach to songwriting gave me more musical inspiration than any band has given me for a very long time. Honest, creative music that doesn't necessarily fall directly into any one genre, just how it should be. Griever got me having fun in the jam space again.
How will you remember 2011 (in terms of music)?
Black Metal / Being very annoyed with dub-step.
What can we look forward to from you in 2012?
Old Problems will be releasing a yet to be named 7" record in the Spring as well as one, possibly two splits later in the year with some of our favorite Canadian Hardcore/Thrash bands. Touring a large portion of Canada and possibly a few of those American Provinces.
What records are you looking forward to most in 2012?
I am looking forward to records from Suburban Scum, Black Breath, Griever (weird hey?), Converge, Withdrawal, Rehashed, Magrudergrind (they better have a record coming out), Crucified, Frustration, and more than anything else, Secret Rivals.
What did you expect to be huge in 2011 which never made it?
I honestly thought doing hard drugs and listening to dub-step would be huge in 2011....oh wait.
