Amy Oden (formerly of Hot Mess, producer/director of From the Back of the Room)
What are your top five albums that were released in 2011? (in order 1-5)
- Tenement - Napalm Dream
- Mind Spiders - Mind Spiders
- Hunx and His Punx - Too Young to Be in Love
- Ilsa - Tutti Il Colori Del Buio (this came out in late 2010, but it rips)
- Callous - Demo (also an end of 2010 release - for lovers of Dystopia)
What band did you discover in 2011 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
I guess I "discovered" the Marked Men and Beach House in 2011. They basically had the polar opposite impact - Marked Men are great when you're riding your bike, and Beach House is good music to zone out to.
How will you remember 2011 (in terms of music)?
Mostly I'm excited for my friends bands to get some traction - Ilsa is amazing and they're just starting to get noticed. I'll also remember C.L.I.T.Fest DC and also the Nausea cover band I played in during halloween.
What can we look forward to from you in 2012?
Hopefully I'll play some more music with the folks I was in "Nausea" with - I'm working on a film called Opting Out that's about masculinity and the recession. Also I'm working on a film called "Exotic" that I'm trying to start shooting in Feb.
What records are you looking forward to most in 2012?
I don't know! The next Tenement record - I will always love that band to pieces.
What did you expect to be huge in 2011 which never made it?
I really thought the DC band Deathrats would take off - but it looks like they're breaking up instead.
