Mountain Man

(Patrick Murphy)

What are your top five albums that were released in 2009? (In order 1-5)

  1. Poison The Well - The Tropic Rot

  2. Mastodon - Crack The Skye

  3. Greymachine - Disconnected

  4. Brand New - Daisy

  5. Thursday - Common Existence

What band did you discover in 2009 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?

This year I got really into a band called Mono. They've been around for a long time and I am really into the whole "post rock" genre of music, but this year they released "Hymn To The Immortal Wind" and it gave me a new appreciate for that style. They use symphonic elements to create a really emotional feeling when you listen to it. It's very minimalistic, yet very lush and big sounding.

How will you remember 2009? (In terms of music)

2009 really got me excited for hardcore again. I got to hear a lot of great new bands and see/tour with some bands I grew up listening to. I felt like I did when I was like thirteen and going to shows for the first time.

2009 was a huge year for reunions. What reunion excited you the most? What band that has not reunited would you love to see play/record most in 2010?

Though I didn't actually get to see either, I was really pumped on Unbroken and Cave In. I would love to see those bands come back and be full time again. Jawbox playing one song on Jimmy Fallon was awesome too; I would love to see them do a tour.

If I could choose, it would be awesome to see Swans play. I've been on a One King Down kick lately, so maybe them with Rob singing or The Dedication would be fucking awesome.

What can we look forward to from you in 2010?

My band Mountain Man is releasing our debut record "One" on March 9th on Mightier Than Sword Records and hopefully massive amounts of touring to follow.

What three records are you looking forward to most in 2010?

108's "18.61", the new Deftones album, and Trap Them.
