What band did you discover in 2011 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?
I don't think any band literally "had an impact on my life" this year, but Tokyo Police Club was a great band to stumble across. I always like discovering a band that already has a few albums out because then you immediately get to explore their back catalogue instead of having to wait years between releases. And in the case of Tokyo Police Club, they have three excellent records of... I don't know if "indie rock" is the right phrase but it's definitely not punk rock. Really cool sounding (as in, production-wise) songs that have interesting parts but are still catchy and not over-complicated.
How will you remember 2011 (in terms of music)?
I discovered a lot of new bands in 2009 and 2010, but 2011 seemed to be more about checking out new records by bands I've been into for awhile. A lot of follow-up records, basically—most of which were pretty good. On a personal level, I'll mostly remember working on and releasing new Banner Pilot and Gateway District albums.
What can we look forward to from you in 2012?
Some touring for sure, and a new Gateway District album
What records are you looking forward to most in 2012?
Against Me, Menzingers, The Dopamines
What did you expect to be huge in 2011 which never made it?
I was hoping crab core and ska were going to merge and be huge. Skarab Core. 2012!
