Nadja (Aidan Baker)

What are your top five albums that were released in 2009? (In order 1-5)

  1. Mount Eerie - Wind's Poem

  2. Jodis - Secret House

  3. Hope Sandoval & The Warm Inventions - Through the Devil Softly

  4. The Flaming Lips - Embryonic

  5. Fever Ray - Fever Ray

What band did you discover in 2009 (can be a brand new band or an older band) that had an impact on your life? What made them significant?

Six Organs of Admittance. One of those artists that I never really got around to listening to despite the fact that he gets referenced a lot and he always seemed like someone I would like. We both played at the Roadburn Festival in Holland this year and even though I only managed to hear a small portion of his set, it made an impression.

How will you remember 2009? (In terms of music)

We played a lot of shows in a lot of interesting, new places (Moscow, Kiev, Lisbon...Baltimore...Eugene, Oregon...).

2009 was a huge year for reunions. What reunion excited you the most? What band that has not reunited would you love to see play/record most in 2010?

I think the only reunited band I saw this year was The Jesus Lizard and they put on a pretty good show! I would have liked to have seen Sleep (but really only if they were doing Dopesmoker in its entirety)...and Faith No More if they weren't just doing massive festivals and arena shows. There were rumors flying around a few months ago that Michael Gira might do another Swans album...that I would definitely like to hear/see.

What can we look forward to from you in 2010?

Among other things, we have a new full-length coming out with Brazil's Essence Records entitled Autopergamene (available in regular and extra-fancy-inserts-in-stuff editions) and a DVD, Drone Fields/White Nights, with Beta-Lactam Ring Records that will have almost 6 hours of music on it. I also have a solo album, Liminoid, coming out with Alien8 Recordings featuring a large ensemble (strings, 2 drummers, chorus, etc.).

What three records are you looking forward to most in 2010?

Hmm...don't know. Haven't been keeping up with what's forthcoming.
