Top 5 Records That Don't Really Count of 2012
This is a list of albums that for some reason, can't make the main list this year. Reissues, compilations, albums with different release dates in different countries...that kind of thing.
1
Sleep - Dopesmoker
Southern Lord
Sleep's seminal Dopesmoker is a one track, fifty minute plus masterpiece of stoned out doom weirdness. Reissued and remastered by Southern Lord, Dopesmoker came back into the world via a multitude of different packages but with only one outcome - perfection.
2
Uncle Acid & the deadbeats - Blood Lust
Rise Above Records, Metal Blade Records
The enigmatic Uncle Acid and his band of merry deadbeats put out Blood Lust in 2010 but each LP run was snapped up in a matter of minutes leading to a new reissue via Metal Blade and Rise Above Records this year. 1960s/70s influenced horror fuzz has never sounded so wickedly good.
3
Nine Covens - ...On The Dawning of Light
Candlelight Records
The ever mysterious black metal group Nine Covens released their second full length in the UK in November, however it doesn't see an American release until January 2013. As SPB generally goes for US release dates, they couldn't be included on my personal main list. A shame, but something to look forward to in terms of 2013 year end shenanigans!
4
HIM - XX: Two Decades of Love Metal
The End Records, Sony
HIM's anniversary compilation is a lovely reminder of the fact that the Fin's wrote darn good rock tunes and are still very much the masters of their own love metal brand. Honest.
5
Kelly Clarkson - Greatest Hits: Chapter One
RCA
Kelly Clarkson rules. That's basically it.
