Before starting, I would like take a quote from the band's spotify profile” "Went to a Ramones show. Started a band. Pissed a lot people off". The quote tells a lot about the band's history and controversies. Begin with having a beef with many label owners, Fat Wreck one of them, up to the constant changing of its regular and the founding members as well. In some cases, like Screeching Weasel, it's a case that everyone wouldn't give a f**k about. This is proven by their well received output in recent years.

At some points, scene politics is an unpleasant thing. It's like "Can I just sit down and enjoying some good music?? Without worrying what have they done or blablabla??". Well, at least it happens to me and Screeching Weasel personally. The Awful Disclosure of Screeching Weasel is a good pop punk record that everyone should take a notice of. Well I'm the type of Weasel fan that is "ignorant" about recent members and eras, but this is a proof that the band can still produce good stuff despite the original members leaving. Hell of "Black Flag thing" lol.

The album starts with the track called "Six Ways To Sunday". It's a blasting song that would satisfy everyone at a record listening session or even a cheap bar gig. I love the drum rolling part that begins the song: it gives a damn bold statement that everyone should jump or stage dive into. I love the intensity that the band put into this song. And don't forget about the lead guitar that is located on 00:24, it's a part that is totally Weasel-ish song signature. I will always wait for this part to shine in any Screeching Weasel's song!

Then next highlighted song, "My Favorite Nightmare", is one of my favorite songs of the album. I love how the verse flows. It's just Weasel's song signature on its vocal melody and also it's a fast tempo song that hits so damn much. The nicest part is where the vocal melodies meld with the harmonious guitar+drum part. I would bet that the song "My Favorite Nightmare" would be an instant classic for everyone who just got into the album for the first time.

Then the next song called "Pandora's Eyes": I’ve never heard that any Weasel's song with this kind of vocal melodies, especially at the verse. It's a new thing that keeps it interesting. The difference also goes for its chorus line. It’s so cool it gets stuck into your head instantly.

Up next is "Diana". It's a song about adulting and finding a joy to it. No, it's not a slow tempo thing. Screeching Weasel is a band that would sing about adulting in a punk rock way and the keys instrumentation decorating the song is just perfect. This song kinda remind of "Cool Kids" vibe because of its keys instrumentation.

Overall, the album presents Screeching Weasel in a good way. Beside the material itself, the sound architecture also becomes a factor that makes this album as awesome as it is. And don't forget Mike Kennerty, who produced the album, though many purists would say that their best pairing will always be Mass Giorgini and Sonic Iguana. But let's be honest: The Awful Disclosure of Screeching Weasel is a new Screeching Weasel era that shall be appreciated. Yes, year 2022 is too great for my musical experience! Thanks Screeching Weasel!

There Is No Memory
Equal Vision (2025)

Armor For Sleep return with an album that treats memory like a weapon. It’s delicate, devastating, and impossible to disarm. For those who may not be as old as me and missed their emergence into the emo/indie scene, the Teaneck, New Jersey band started in 2001. Led by frontman Ben Jorgensen, they dropped gems like Dream to Make Believe (2003) … Read more

Back in or around 2007 my buddy Jake invited me to a show, I’m not even sure he told me who was playing or if he did I hadn’t heard of them yet anyway. Turns out it was Toronto’s Career Suicide who were on tour with Regulations from Sweden. Both bands fucking ripped and I still remember being pretty blown … Read more

Wormhole Death (2025)

Formed in 1995, Imperial Domain cut their teeth in the Swedish death metal underground with early demos before dropping In the Ashes of the Fallen (1998) and The Ordeal (2003). After the 2014 death of original vocalist, Tobias Heideman, Imperial Domain could’ve folded into the past like so many of their era. Instead, they came back swinging. The band returned … Read more
