These past few weeks have been very busy weeks for me. My girlfriend moved in. Happy news for me and her of course. Moving her stuff, renovating my home, vivid discussions on what to keep and what to get rid off all took their time. Most of the work is done now and all the effort we put in it was most definitely worth it! That time though didn’t go into writing for this lovely site. Fortunately for me I had plenty of time to listen to a couple of new releases. Diamond by Grit being one of those releases.

The name Grit may sound familiar to you if you frequent this site. February this year I reviewed Ghost Estates, the first EP by Grit. That contained four tracks of their demo. In that review I mentioned looking forward to the release of the two unreleased demo tracks with two new songs on the second EP later that year. And now it’s here!

While painting the walls in my living room I was thinking hard on what to say on Diamond. And I can’t come up with anything new really. Listening to this EP I again think “what if Girlschool would have played punk?”. And to be honest, it would have been rather strange if this EP would be drastically different from the previous one, wouldn’t it? Two songs were recorded during the same session and were on the same demo. What I can say is: the two new songs (“Push On Through” and “Diamond”) blend in seamlessly.

My only feedback: after a hard days work I prefer to listen to one LP over two EP’s as I am a lazy bum who doesn’t like to get up to often to turn the record over… Perhaps that LP will come someday in the future. Until then, I can deal with these two EP’s just fine!

Do you ever play games where you imagine what would have happened if an artist or a band would have had other influences than they had now? For example: what if Girlschool would have listened to punk instead of New Wave of British Heavy Metal? What would their albums have sounded like? My best guess is it would have sounded … Read more
