Singaporean trio twinkle band, Forests, just put out their 3rd full- length entitled Get In Losers, We're Going To Eternal Damnation. I guess the title itself explains what would lie in the theme of the lyrics. It Ssounds stupid but serious at the same time. The band still encapsulates what's good from 2010's emo scene, and some words to describe Forests' music in general; include fun, mosh-able, and spinal tap-able.

The band made a great impact on Asia's emo scene through their second LP Spending Eternity In A Japanese Convenience Store, gaining recognition regionally and also the LP has brought the bandwith some international exposure. It was proven as tThe band signed to Dog Knights, a UK-based label releasing so many well- name known musicians in the game, and buzzes givenwith buzz from by so many known media, such as Stereogum, NME, or Bandcamp Daily. And their return seems like an easy step to do.On their return, t The band seems like to be going all the way forward without thinking about what whas laid before. T so they seem to have some kind of “'purity'” essence for their music and that's what I like about them.

The album starts with a track called ”Fool of Hell” with guitar-hero-typical riff hits directly followed by the cathartic lyric line and, yes, the best singalong part for this song is its first intro. I guess the first track would breaks down to the first listener of Forests about what would Forests offers on this album. And then the second track, called ”Snowball,” would probably be your favorite track for the album. It has a real fine melody on the verse part and an infectious chorus as well. I like how the band works: harmonizing between the guitar/bass sounds with Darell's voices. The band also would still keeps up with their syncopation habit, which ismakes it becoming their songwriting signature. Band members' musical backgrounds and skills would be the reasons why their music is well-written and fun-driven at the same time. The music is both well-written and focused on having fun at the same time.

A criticism may be The critic would go into the drum sounds. I, well if you're such a fan of lo-fi drums sounds it would be good stuff, to listen to but not for me. Music like Forests should have a thicker drum sound and I’m sorry to say the drum sounds rawer on this album if you could make a comparison tothan their 2two previous albums.

Forests' new album is an emo album that, instead of being would not sound contemplative, on contrary, these areacts as the soundtrack for your sweatying basement party. And yes, 2022 is not that bad, and Forest's’ Get In Losers, We're Going To Eternal Damnation would be a nice present to cover it all.

Personality Cult

Dilated
Dirtnap (2025)

I had a hard time starting this review. I can’t help coming back to the fact that it sounds like Marked Men. It does, maybe intentionally so, as Dilated is the second of Personality Cult’s albums that is produced by Jeff Burke of Marked Men and Radioactivity. But I don’t necessarily like to say a band sounds like another band … Read more

Her Head’s On Fire (NY, NY) and Arms Like Roses (New Haven, CT) team up on this split 7” with two new tracks (one each band) of post-hardcore tunes that are both massive and melodic in their own distinct ways. "Universal" is the track from Her Head’s On Fire. Recorded by the band’s guitarist Jeff Dean, "Universal" came from the … Read more

All Dead Bars Go To Heaven
Iodine (2025)

Dead Bars has a unique talent of taking the everyday, the experiences you see and live all the time, and shining a new light on them to make them personal and interesting. I've written about it before, yet it's my job to say this again and to make it interesting. It's what Dead Bars does, so it only seems fitting … Read more
