Football, Etc. are a Texas three piece and this is the most recent piece of their shortly building discography. There is much to be said about the trend of bringing back 90's style emo. Whether this is applied to the poorly named Skramz genre with bands such as Daitro or the more melodic midwest style that bands like Balance And Composure seem to take from. Football, Etc clearly take from the Midwest style of emo. Basing much of their style on the old polyvinyl record roster. The most easily comparable band would be Rainer Maria.
The band is led by Lindsay who sings with a calm precious voice. This vocal style seems to drift onto the rest of the instruments allowing for them to stick out without them encompassing the mix. The guitars are played in a calm slightly angular way. This does little to really take away from the melodies built into the structures. The sound is built upon these two factors focusing mostly on the point counterpoint in between the two. The rhythm section seems like an afterthought. This is not to say that there is anything wrong with them whatsoever. It is very clear that the rhythm section is there to help the songs move rather than being the main point for the songwriting. If you're into calm vocals coupled with interesting and somewhat calm guitar work then this would be for you.
