Divine Punishment was originally released in 1986.. Throughout her storied career, she has pushed boundaries, stayed true to her vision and accomplished an output of never replicated and truly original artistic beauty.
Her vocal styling can be something of an acquired taste but once you understand and accept the unique styling you begin to understand how powerful her emotive wailing is accomplished and how challenging her lyric output is displayed
Galas uses dissonant harmonies, uncompromising vocal techniques and unconventional performance styles. Her unique style is often challenging but for those that dig deep, they will find the pearl buried deep within the oyster's meat.
Her subject matter is often deep and personal as she draws upon her own experiences often citing political and social issues that she is concerned about and holds closely to the ever beating heart.
All of Dimanda’s releases are intense however rewarding for those who can shed the dark cloak of convention. Fans of avant-garde and experimental music may appreciate the releases substantially upon first listen compared to the nubile virgins who are encouraged to repeat, repent and repel the chains of normalcy.
The Divine Punishment is the first release I personally heard. I was intrigued by the introduction and explored future outpourings with bated breath. She is a truly unique person and performer and becomes highly recognizable upon hearing her. There is only one Diamanda-the true queen of darkness and intrigue. Some may see her as a possessed wailing witch but without dark you can not understand the light. Dig deep and explore her vision and celebrate the pain, intrigue, and challenging lyrical output while bathing in sounds that are of other-worldly connections
