Lookers, of Rhode Island, release their new album Deeper today, and SPB is excited to premiere a video for the title track from their new album on Almost Ready Records.
The band is equally mood, mysterious, seductive and somber, with influence that ranges from post-punk to pop.
We asked vocalist Muggs Fogarty a few questions about the new song and record, getting deeper into Deeper.
Tell us about the single, "Deeper". What inspired this song in particular?
It’s a simple song about being reminded why you dropped the person who was chic and fun but didn’t have much else to offer.
When/how did you know it would become the title track?
After recording. It feels like a song that encapsulates the greater themes and attitudes scattered throughout the album. It didn’t hurt that Lookers/Deeper has a nice ring to it.
How about the video? How did the director bring it to life?
Working with Alex Pizzuti was a real treat. We were hoping for a high-energy video with lots of dancing and borderline-camp composites. I think I described the vision as “ABBA meets Pee-Wee’s Playhouse”. We came away with a vibrant neon green dreamscape that I think suits us and the energy of the song beyond what I could’ve imagined. Alex brought in a lot of skill and playfulness to help us get there. We brought the moves.
At SPB we’re especially fond that “ABBA meets Pee-Wee’s Playhouse” line.
