Ghostkeeper, described as Métis experimental pop project from Shane Ghostkeeper and Sarah Houle, has a new record out tomorrow, August 28. Luckily, you get a new song and video one day early, the brand new “Storm Chaser,” below.
It’s a great way to get a feel for the 8-song album as a whole, which features futuristic soundscapes adorned with minimal trap and R&B inspired beats and ethereal vocals. It’s ambient, dreamy, yet equally evocative and challenging.
The new album is called Cîpayak Joy, with “cîpayak” translating from Cree to English as “the ghosts are dancing,” often in reference to the Northern Lights. The full name Cîpayak Joy was also used for the duo’s visual art practice.
"’Storm Chaser’ is an homage to the moment when these two lovers chose to accept a mutual invitation to propel themselves into the iconic, formidable and epic storm that arises when one decides to battle their ego- a sincere and fierce commitment to romance and progressive individualism so as to gift each other true love,” the group tells us.
Cîpayak Joy is the latest chapter from the group, and kicks off a new universe which will be explored in future projects as well, built around the core duo but featuring a variety of collaborators. The album releases via Victory Pool Records.
