New York, NY based band The Mortal Prophets has announced a new record, Dealey Plaza Blues, out on July 28 on digital platforms. It's the second album from the group and a follow-up to last year's Me and the Devil.
And Scene Point Blank is excited to share the first single from the record, a title track called "Dealey Plaza Blues," below. The video was directed by Michele Civetta. This post-punk meets art-punk with some acid trip poetry and tonal shifts.
Project leader John Beckmann gives us some insight into the lead single:
I’m very excited to introduce the second Mortal Prophets album - Dealey Plaza Blues. The single and accompanying video revolve around a delusional conspiracy theorist, who is obsessed with the John F. Kennedy assassination. The lyrics emerged as a stream of consciousness one night, so we tried to capture that immediacy in the video.
The Mortal Prophets previously released an EP titled Stomp the Devil, produced by David Sisko and featuring collaborations with Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart), as well.
