Today is premiere day at Scene Point Blank, as we shared the title track of Laraigné's new LP, The Brightside Of It All. The album will release on May 11 via Snappy Little Numbers (US) and Shield Recordings (Netherlands).
Greg Laraigné, under the Laraigné moniker, plays roots music with a DIY ethic: some country, some Americana, some folk, but all with his unique stamp. Summing up a common theme of the new album, the music finds bright spots alongside the suffering.
Speaking of the song, Laraigné says:
"The Brightside Of It All" is about resilience, acceptance, and letting things go. My father was sick at the time; he had lost vision. I could tell he was reflecting a lot about the past -- the good things, the bad things, pride, regrets- - and he knew what was going to be the next step… He had made peace with it. Loneliness and depression were paying him daily visits. He was hanging there, waiting patiently for the bright side of it all.
Laraigné will play at Pouzza Fest on May 20 and a release party for the record on June 3 at Bovine Sex Club in Toronto (with Yesterday's Ring).
Preorders are available from Snappy Little Numbers and Shield.
