AFI split up after 15 years (UPDATE: or not?)

Posted by Matt on September 7, 2011

AFI have announced their split via their message board. Singer Davey Havok had this to say:

This is the end. Sorry, but AFI is done. After more than 15 years of being together, we as a band have decided to disband A.F.I. Me and Jade will still continue the Blaqk Audio project but there will be no more A.F.I albums or shows. We have matured and have other things in life that we would like to attend to. Please forgive us for the random statement but it was something we were thinking of for a while. We will post a more detailed statement soon, keep your eyes peeled!

The band have been dormant for a while since the release of Crash Love in 2009. Davey and guitarist Jade Puget have been working on their Blaqk Audio side project in the intervening periods between AFI records.

On a personal note, the AFI message board was the original home of SPB, where its founding members first planned and created the site. Thanks, guys, for the good times.

UPDATE: The thread in question has been removed from the AFI board and drummer Adam Carson has denied the rumour, saying "We would have totally written a better press release...".
