Don Giovanni Records is celebrating the label's 20th anniversary with a two-day showcase at The First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia, PA on Oct. 6-7 with a stacked lineup included sets from Tenement, Hunchback, Roadside Graves, Sammus, Laura Stevenson, Mikey Erg, and more, with one still-to-be named headliner forthcoming. Tickets are on sale now, including for individual dates. There will also be a related, all ages acoustic show with The Homeless Gospel Choir, She/Her/Hers, and more.

Says Joe Steinhardt of the label:

I can't believe we made it 20 years, and thinking about how the label started I'm still not completely sure how we did. To celebrate we're going to hold an expo in Philadelphia, because it feels like there aren't enough expos these days and it's time we do something about it. In the spirit of the label, we're keeping the tickets cheap, the stages small, and the good bands over abundant. So come on down to our 20th Anniversary Expo, October 6th and 7th at the First Unitarian Church in Philly. Saturday during the daytime were going to have a record, book, and art fair free for all who attend either night (or $5 if you want to just come to the fair). Tickets go on sale Friday at 10am.

Check out SPB's coverage of the label's 10th anniversary.

Desire Pathway
Don Giovanni (2023)

The lead song and first single on Desire Pathway” is “Brass Bell,” a fine song that’s indicative of Screaming Females’ general sound. That said, it’s really the second song, “Desert Train,” which gets this album rolling for me. It’s a fierce guitar song that’s hard and driving. Just like its name, it’s steeped in classic rock but with modern twists. … Read more

Blind Wink
Cowabunga (2011)

Appleton, WI’s Tenement are a busy beast. The two-plus-piece band (featuring numerous guest musicians) released Napalm Dream in 2011, which I gave a heavy Replacements recommendation on. December 2011 saw the band already unleashing another record, this time the collection Blind Wink, available on varied formats from the likes of Cowabunga (LP), Hang Up (CD), and Dead Broke (cassette). With … Read more

Napalm Dream
Hanged Up (2011)

Wow, this isn’t at all what I was expecting. With a one word name and the title Napalm Dream, I had images of guttural-voice hardcore and power stomps instead of Replacements’-schooled Midwest punk. Sure, I’d seen the name a lot in various Wisconsin-related shows over the past couple of years, but for some reason I associated the band with a … Read more

Marissa (Screaming Females) SPB: How does your choice of guitar define the Screaming Females sound? Marissa: I never put much thought into what sort of guitar I wanted to play in Screaming Females, because I didn't have much of a choice. My G&L was a gift given to me when … Read more

Dan Jones (California X) SPB: How many vans have you had? (Any related “death of a” stories?) Jones: The short answer is: One. Our main touring vehicle during the first few years of the band was a Red Jeep owned by Lemmy-The-Singer. It was a tight fit, and we had … Read more
