SPB premiere: "Love Is A Stranger" by Suzi Moon & Billy Hopeless

Posted in Records on May 1, 2023

Suzi Moon and Billy Hopeless have teamed up on a new split 7" that's more of a collaboration than a split, in truth. The 7" showcases the two artists via the duet format, each taking the lead on a song while sharing vocal duties over both songs on Nothing Left To Lose.

Today, Scene Point Blank is excited to debut side A of the EP, the title track of "Love Is A Stranger."

The two artists have known each other for a long time, dating back to when Civet and The Black Halos were originally active.

Moon explains:

I’ve been a fan of Billy Hopeless / The Black Halos since I was 16. Working with him has been on my bucket list for a long, long time. We suffer the same kinda rock 'n' roll affliction that makes us different than other folks. There’s a mutual respect between us that comes from being frontmen. I greatly admire his work. When Billy messaged me on Facebook in 2021 about doing a duet project, I immediately responded HELL YEAH! and got to work on writing a song that would feature both our strengths as lead singers.

"Love Is A Stranger" is a gut-wrenching “pirate ghost waltz” about unrequited love. Billy’s unmistakable snarl and growl perfectly compliments my aching wail. It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever recorded.

Check it out below.

The b-side, “Communicado,” takes a more upbeat, playful approach, written by Hopeless.

Moon last released Dumb & In Luv, while Hopeless' The Black Halos released How The Darkness Doubled, both in late 2022.

Order the Suzi Moon/Billy Hopeless split 7" from Yeah Right! on white vinyl here.
