SPB Premiere: "Limb Alert" by POST/BOREDOM

Posted in Records on September 20, 2019

Is the prevalence of the post- prefix in contemporary society indicative of the fact that humanity has been left to create, and indeed exist, in a era where most everything has already been done? Where does the brain wander in a post-thought world? And what to make of the band name POST/BOREDOM.  What would a typical experience after being bored be? But wait! With the use of the slash as opposed to a hyphen, should I even be reading the name that way to begin with?

Putting aside my armchair philosophical ponderings and sketchy grammatical analysis, though, POST/BOREDOM's combination of noisy, anything-goes rock and vocals that, to me, recall those of aggressive NYC no wave makes them a worthy addition to Seattle's storied heavy music scene. Formed in 2015 with the current four-piece lineup coming together the following year, the band released the Shaking Hands with Clients EP in 2018 and later headed into the studio to record their debut full-length, Ritualistic Time Abuser.

Though a glance at their Facebook page all but confirms vocalist Rachel Lynch's assertion that POST/BOREDOM tries not to take itself too seriously, the upcoming album's second single "Limb Alert" tackles a subject all-too relevant in today's post-truth times. Says Lynch: "Billy (Hamilton, bass) and I worked on the lyrics for "Limb Alert". It's basically about the endless access to information we have and how hard it is to sift through news sources, social media, bad advice, and misinformation about science and health to find a bit of truth."

Watch for the Hex Records release of Ritualistic Time Abuser on October 11th, and check out "Limb Alert" below.

New Deaf Club EP, new Deaf Club video

Posted in Records on September 8, 2019

Why editorialize when the label blast describes a band like this? Deaf Club is a savage sound bath dripping with sardonicism: a blastbeat-centric hardcore punk assault channeling crust, thrash, and grind (un)sensibilities. Succinct pauses, surreal frequencies and effects, breakneck pace and sharply hurled vocals characterize the band’s aesthetic, which seems … Read more
