Rocky Votolato has a new band, Suzzallo, a trio featuring Steve Bonnell (Schoolyard Heroes) on bass and and Rudy Gajadhar (Waxwing) on drums.
The band shared "River," which will be on the band's debut full-length out on May 2, titled The Quiet Year. It is self-released in the US and handled by Thirty Something Records in EU.
The band formed after Votolato lost his child in a car accident and plays fuzzed out rock merged with Votolato's established lyrical/vocal style.
“I guess it all started to take shape in the summer of 2022, about six months after Kienan [they/them] passed,” Votolato says via press release. “I knew I needed a louder, bigger, more explosive sound to say what I needed to with this project. This kind of personal tragedy rearranges everything about you as a human and artist. I needed a new channel to express what I was going through and the only thing that made any sense to me were the most distorted guitar sounds I could find.”
