An album three years in the making, Ultra Sound, by Mundane, will release to the public on November 8. We’re excited to give a first listen in advance here at Scene Point Blank.
The Gothenburg, Sweden indie-punk band began work on this, their debut, back in 2021, slowly crafting their sound over that time. The band sprung up in the city’s DIY scene, with members running Sekten venue (The Cult), as well as forming Mundane back in 2018. The project began with an emo focus, slowing evolving into a louder, layered sound with alt-rock, indie and post-hardcore elements that you’ll hear on their brand new seven song record. It’s intricate and textured, but with that indescribable DIY heart.
In their own words, the band says:
During 2021 we started working on our debut album. It was about this time we first started to find a sound that defined us. We finally felt that we started finding what we had been searching for. A combination of the styles of music we all loved in a way that felt natural, drawing inspiration from the late eighties and nineties rock bands like Pixies, Nirvana, and Weezer, combined with modern influences like the Midwest-emo/indie era with bands like American Football, Modern Baseball, and Title Fight.
Album artwork was created by visual artist Achilles, who has also worked with Turnstile, Citizen, and Gouge Away.
Mundane will tour Europe following Ultra Sound’s release, including shows in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and Poland – furthering the community reach that started with their work at Sekten.
