In another day-after post about Halloween, Superchunk has continued their tradition of new holiday songs each year. Yesterday they released a split 7" with Quivers, consisting of two covers: "Fire in the Western World," originally by Dead Moon and now by Superchunk, plus "Pass the Hatchet, I Think I'm Good," originally by Yo La Tengo and new covered by Quivers.

The band offers a statement:

After a couple years off we are back in the haunted house with a Halloween track for you! This time we're doing the timeless "Fire In The Western World" from eternal rockers Dead Moon. We enjoyed playing this tune nearly every night on tour with Quivers this month & while the tour 7-inch is sold out you can now frighten trick or treaters by blasting this one from your preferred digital source. Can't you hear the rooster crowing in the dead of the night?

It is the second release featuring the current Superchunk lineup of Mac McCaughan (vocals/guitar), Laura Ballance (bass/vocals), Jim Wilbur (guitar/vocals) and Laura King (drums/vocals), previously sharing “Everybody Dies” b/w “As in a Blender.”
