Equal Vision Records continues a wave of anniversary reissues, of which we've posted this weekend. The latest is a 20th anniversary remixed/remastered take on Coliseum's debut album, a self-titled record that first released in 2004 by Level-Plane Records. The album was remixed by vocalist Ryan Patterson and highlight's the group as a whole, specifically noting the contributions of original drummer and Patterson's cousin, Matt Jaha, who passed away in 2020.
The record was recorded DIY-style Jason Loewenstein (Sebadoh) in a house in Louisville, KY. “We wanted a raw and immediate hardcore punk record, and that’s what we got,” Patterson sayss. “The drums were recorded with only four microphones, the amps were isolated in the upstairs bedrooms, the vocals were recorded in a bathroom.”
The band, currently active after hiatus, is on tour next month in UK/EU.
The new edition comes out on Nov. 21. SPB is also 20, but we didn't review the band's work until 2005.
