On Oct. 31, Left For Dead Records will release a mini-album from New Jersey hardcore band Detention, collwing 9 songs in total that first appeared on their debut single “Dead Rock ‘N Rollers” and “El Salvador, songs from their eponymous debut album, plus unreleased material. Titled Dead Rock ‘N Rollers, it comes out on CD and 12" vinyl.
In 1981, following a stint in the Coast Guard, Kevin Shield reflects, “Detention came about because I decided to be a player not a spectator...The easiest way was to recruit my family, so I turned to my brothers. I bought a bass, but I didn’t know how to play it. My brother Paul suggested I get in touch with this guitarist Rodney Matejek. He showed me how to play simply, and within months we started coming up with riffs, and what would become songs came very quickly.”
The band released a self-produced, self-titled album before disbanding in the mid 1980s.
