Formed in Tucson and now in California's Bay Area, The Okmoniks have a brand new record out this month, releasing Sept. 2 digitally and Sept. 27 on vinyl, via Slovenly Records. Over roughly 14 years the band has released one previous LP and several EPs, leading up to the new Afterparty Fever!!!, which is a fitting name for the band's boom-swagger-boom style garage-punk.
"We grew up loving the 'Budget Rock' era of San Francisco punk rock: the Donnas, Bobbyteens, the Brentwoods, and the Mummies. We even moved to San Francisco because we love that stuff. This record is probably more like those '90s records than anything in its party-on-a-disc sound. But unlike those '90s Rip-Off Records one-sided singles, ours is a bargain -- it's the same 9 songs on both sides! Two records for the price of one!" Helene 33 (organ/vocals) tells us.
Sammy (guitar) gives a few more clues about their sound, "You can definitely find easter eggs and nods to the music we love on this record, whether its a similar song title or riff from a '60s punk song that's slightly warped, or goofy but period-appropriate '70s punk vocal effects mimicking one-off Killed By Death singles, or the cover art itself which is a light parody of The Boys Alternative Chartbusters' LP."
The band is scheduled for Gonerfest 21 later this month, with a US West Coast tour following the album's release.
