Tim Kinsella and Jenny Pulse, who once recorded together under the moniker Good Fuck in addition to the album Giddy Skelter, and whose individual catalogs include Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc, and Spa Moans, have released Giddy Skelter: Alternates & Outtakes, officially released March 29 on Kill Rock Stars.
Per press release:
On Giddy Skelter, they’ve crafted a swirling, past-future, future-past, sorta-rock, collage-rock, melange borne from the confined anxiety of the pandemic. It’s a full-length undeniably of its moment, rich with musical references while radiating a visionary path forward. However, the album represents just a glimpse of what was a deep and expansive fantasy world Kinsella and Pulse created and hoped to release as a double album. Originally conceptualized and composed with a five-act arc, like a classic drama, weaving many recurring elements, motifs, and characters across multiple songs
Kinsella and Pulse share, “But you know what is especially tricky to get released in the tricky world of the modern music industry? Deep and expansive double album fantasy worlds. We decided to compromise our overall vision to be able to salvage any of it. Some songs attached themselves in one batch that we released as the Gimme Altamont EP. Others broke out into their own cluster, Giddy Skelter.”
...
“We are thrilled to now share these alternate versions and outtakes to give a greater glimpse into the original vision that we were aiming to capture. These songs are released unmixed; each one untouched since the moment we left it behind.”
And there you have it.
The two artists hit the road together next week, playing dates in the US and Canada.
