Valient Thorr shared a new song this week, a Neil Young cover, "Don't Let It Bring You Down." The single precludes a new solo record named Crooner Jukebox, out digitally and on cassette on his Smokedoggg Records label.
"It was a pandemic project to finish an album of covers with buddies that I always wanted to play with but never had time because we were always touring," Thorr says, explaining the concept. Additional musicians on the album include Ian MacDougal (Riverboat Gamblers, Broken Gold, Band of Horses), William Cashion (Future Islands), Danny Blanchard (A Giant Dog), Ashish Vyas (Gogogo Airheart, Thievery Corporation, Ruff Feechers), Lucian Thorr (Valient Thorr, Birds of Avalon), and more.
The covers include songs originally by Flaming Lips, Suicide, Wayne Kramer & MC5, Roky Erickson, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, and more.
