Released today, a new ska-focused compilation called Black Sand Relief: A Benefit for Michelle Ska and the People of Maui has released, raising funds for those affected by devastation in Maui.

The compilation features The Slackers, Westbound Train, Pilfers, Bite Me Bambi, and The Kilograms, a new project from Joe Gittleman (Mighty Mighty Bosstones) and Sammy Kay. Their debut song is titled "Who Am I."

As to the compilation's title: "Michelle is a resident of Lahaina and was able to escape the flames with a car and the clothes on her back. Her home and the school where she worked as a special educator were completely destroyed. The goal is to not only help Michelle, but the Maui community as a whole. Half of the proceeds will go to a local Maui charity," a press release explains, led by Jeff Loddo, plus Matt Flood (Asbestos Records), Sammy Kay and Joe Gittleman (The Kilograms), and Chris Malone (The Pandemics).

There is a clear working-class New York vibe that permeates their every song, … Read more

Redlight (20th Anniversary)
Pirates Press (2017)

Has it really been twenty years since this album made its way out into the world? Self Medication
Indication (2008)

You might not like ska music, but The Slackers are the exception to that rule (at least for me and probably should be for anyone else) with their smoother sound and laid back vibes which incorporate a variety of sounds across many different genres from jazz to salsa to soul, which all create the amalgamation that is their distinct style. … Read more
