Released originally in 2018 in limited quantities, We Are Falling is the most recent full-length from Polish forest folk act By The Spirits. After gaining cult status within the neo-folk scene after its release and the band going on to play with several well known figures in that musical world (Of The Wand and the Moon, Grift), the album has been updated and given a new lease of life by Eisenwald.
The album can be streamed by following this link.
Founded by Michał Krawczuk, who records and plays almost everything heard on this new version of We Are Falling, By The Spirits is sure to find a new audience in 2022 with an album that is rich both in storytelling and sound. Krawczuk's voice is low and resonant and it accompanies gentle guitar melodies that flow with luminous light and robust atmosphere.
The album transports you to a sun dappled clearing of a forest where nature has been allowed to expand and grow as it wishes and as We Are Falling moves towards its inevitable end, we are given the opportunity to understand death and decay in its most pure form and learn of our place in the world as a destructive force. By The Spirits encourages us to be aware of the spirituality of nature and how we can begin to change our legacy now. Joined in the final tracks - which were written and recorded as bonus material - by Mosaic's Valkenstijn (who also handled some of the visual aspects of the album), By The Spirits shows that community and collaboration is important to music, and by extension, to our world as a whole.
The band gives us a little of their own insight:
We are constantly falling down. We are missing something. We forget about the nature, we forget about love. We blindly follow things that are not so important as we think. By making these songs I was trying to retrieve the way to peace through contact with nature and real love. This album was made to praise the forests, the mountains, the true spirit of nature and love. It is also a journey through spiritual path leading across the deepest woods.
We Are Falling is released on July 22nd and can be pre-ordered here for North America and here for Europe/rest of the world.
