This October, Slovenly Recordings will release Superioridad Moral, the ninth album from Spain's Doctor Explosion. It will be their first album in 11 years, leading things off with a single called "Vestir De Mujer (Dress Like A Woman)."
Jorge Explosion, says:
Stereotypes lock us into lives that are rarely relevant to how we really are. In the '90s, before queer culture or gender fluidity was normalized or named, I sought my aesthetic identity by imitating the look of bands from the American Garage movement of the '60s and my idols, The Kinks, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. I dressed eccentrically, guided by aesthetic models, which were uncommon in my generation. I defiantly wore my hair in a shaggy Brian Jones-style bowl cut, with elegant three-button suits and high-heeled Cuban boots, proudly receiving strange looks from my neighbors in Gijón. Some of the comments I received about my appearance were so hurtful, proving that a provincial society in my country does not tolerate the eccentricity of the different, the "weird." This disdainful attitude is why I became attracted to unusual and marginal environments, and my girlfriend and I began attending a fantastic drag show at a club called El Eros. I began to appreciate the individuality of different public figures such as Madame Dicarlo and La Pechines: people who were authentic symbols of freedom for me, for having the courage to be themselves, not caring about the looks and prejudices of society.
With 11 years between releases, the band has also grown, expanding from a trio to a four-piece lineup of Jorge Explosion (vocals/guitar), César Crespo (guitar), and ex-Cooper players Conrado Martin (drums) and Dani Montero (bass).
