Geography. It’s everyone’s least favorite subject, right? Well, indulge yourself for a sec and ponder Irnini Mons, one of the volcanoes on the planet Venus. Oh, I should also mention that Irnini Mons is also the name of a pretty cool four-piece band from Lyons, France.
I mean, I get it. It’s sometimes difficult for me, as someone who is an English speaker with an at best half-assed knowledge of a few other languages (although I’m trying, dammit!), and I suspect others to get into bands that feature lyrics in languages they don’t understand completely, but I found this group’s sound to be a lot of fun due to well-constructed music along with the sweet melodies and harmonies they’ve got going on in the vocals. I went through a French pop music phase at one point, and this band brings back memories of that kinda stuff while still rocking out plenty hard.
Irnini Mons has a self-titled LP, released by Taken By Surprise Records and Another Record, coming on April 22, 2022, and we’ve got a premiere for album track “Montreal.” Perhaps the album’s most dramatic track, it’s inspired by a trip to the Canadian city and, as the press sheet explains, “it’s noisy, francais and tres magnifique.” Can’t argue with that. Dig it below.
