New Street Eaters sets release date (and adds guitar)

Posted by Loren on March 13, 2021

Simple Distractions, a new EP from Street Eaters, will release on April 9 via Nrevous Intent Records, run by the Bay Area band.

The DIY band long-comprised of Megan March (drums/vocals) and John No (bass/vocals) is joined on this EP by guitar:

The band explains:

While we were on tour with Screaming Females, Marissa (Paternoster) asked us if we wanted to cover Gang of Four’s “Love Like Anthrax” with her live as kind of a segue from our set into the Screamales, and over the course of a few weeks of wild feedback and the energy of playing with such a shredder it sounded really good and we got addicted. When we got home we mulled it over and decided that would be a fun direction - we figured after 10+ years a band should be able to do whatever the hell they want.

Three songs on the EP feature guest guitarist Stevo (Tony Molina Band), and it ends with a live Gang of Four cover featuring Screaming Females’ Marissa Paternoster on guitar and vocals.

While Stevo and Paternoster are guests on this EP, the band is now formally a three-piece with the addition of guitarist Joan DeToro, who will perofrm on the group's next album.

Nervous Intent Records (2021)

The info surrounding this EP talks about how Street Eaters have changed. The band formed roughly a decade ago, so there’s always going to be evolution and whatnot -- and there is even a new shape to the band on Simple Distractions, as they’ve officially become a three-piece. Still, the first thing I hear on the opening title track is … Read more

Blood::Muscles::Bones
Nervous Intent (2014)

Bands are seemingly judged differently on their sophomore outings: where does it change, does it meet expectation, does it show growth, and the like. Well, writing about a band the second (or third) time is kind of the same thing. With Blood::Muscles::Bones, Street Eaters haven’t changed up their sound drastically or reworked their well-oiled machine. They’ve just written another bundle … Read more

Self Titled
Cut the Cord That…Records (2012)

There are a few formats I almost go out of my way to avoid, namely cassettes and digital EPs. However, I’ll make an exception for certain bands and Street Eaters are one of those. Street Eaters released their debut full-length Rusty Eyes and Hydrocarbons in 2011 and it still grips me today. This self-titled digi-EP did see a 12” pressing … Read more

For roughly fifteen years, Street Eaters have toured the DIY circuit as a duo. Their effect-driven wall of sound was so powerful you might not even notice that it was a bass/drum duo on first listen. Recently, they expanded their lineup, adding a live guitar player to the mix. It’s … Read more

John No (Street Eaters) SPB: How different is touring as a two-piece as compared to your previous projects? No: Touring as a two-piece has been really liberating for Street Eaters. Both of us have been in many bands with 3-6 members, and such combos of many volatile personalities can grow … Read more
