Think Fast! Records has announced the formation of the Dominic Mallary Award in honor of the Last Lights vocalist that passed away late last year. Here is the official announcement from the label:
To accompany the April 28th release of the Last Lights discography, "No Past. No Present. No Future." Think Fast! Records is establishing the Dominic Mallary Award. This award will be given out annually to honor a person who we feel best represents the spirit and ambition that was so evident in the life of Dominic, who was not only a talented and devoted member of the punk/hardcore community, but also a person who gave his time and heart to help better his community. This award will be given to a person who has been nominated by their peers. The person must be a current high school or college student who is excelling in school and has either contributed to the field of art/literature and/or someone who has gone above and beyond in their efforts to make a positive change in their community. We hope that this award will not only support young people who are actually doing something positive but to be a reminder of the life and talent of Dominic Mallary. We hope that, in his spirit, young people will strive to do good things and this is a chance for people to recognize their peers who are making an effort to carry out the same kind of legacy without asking anything in return. Each year, the person whose impact is one that we recognize as being worthy of this award, will receive a plaque with their name along with $500 which we hope the person can put toward their education (books, supplies, etc.) or find another way to put it to good use. TF! will keep a log of annual award winners on our website along with their stories. Here are the requirements for nominees: 1. A person should be nominated by their peers. 2. Nominations should include as much information as possible as to why the person feels their peer is worthy of this award. 3. Top nominees will be picked based on this information along with some verification of the person's grades or a reference from a current educator. Obviously, a person nominating someone else won't have access to grades, but a reference is sufficient or if the story/information provided is recognized as being a top nomination, we will contact that nominee to follow up on this information. To nominate someone, please e-mail info@thinkfastrecords.com
