Today Scene Point Blank is pleased to premiere "Old Sparky," a brand new song from Chicago, IL's Lower Automation. The band features hyper math-rock shifts blended seamlessly with noise rock blasts of aggression and frustration.
To give listener's an early taste, we're sharing "Old Sparky," a song about the punitive nature of the U.S. criminal justice system.
"The song is inspired by how much the U.S. hates people convicted of crimes. It's insane to me that we still have the death penalty here, and that we'd rather lock people away than deal with the real underlying issues," the band says in a short, direct statement that's also reflective of their overall tone: strong direct emotion on the surface with layered depth underneath.
The single comes in advance of their first full-length album, a self-titled record available July 12 via Zegema Beach Records.

As for the record itself, Lower Automation explains:
In late 2019 we started throwing ideas around and ended up with 12 or so demos. Once we were in quarantine, we would have long phone conversations where we would dismantle and reassemble the songs in different ways. This music is a big departure from our last couple EPs. We let ourselves riff a little more off the cuff. In August of 2020, we spent 5 days recording the album ourselves in a cabin in the middle of nowhere in Michigan. It was hot and claustrophobic, perfect for an album that sounds like a panic attack.
The self-titled full-length follows the release of the Shoebox Companino EP.
