“Eerie Freezing Winds” marks Obscurae’s return from the cold and is the second single to be released from their forthcoming album, To Walk the Path of Sorrows. While, technically, many of these songs have been available before, the band have reworked and rerecorded them in order to be in line with the current vison of band founder C. Davis (Hour of Thirteen, Subklinik among many, many others) and since those initial releases are no longer in print, 2020 makes for the perfect time to delve deep into Obscurae’s nightmares.
“Eerie Freezing Winds” is a furious work that takes in atmospheric black metal, cold synthesised passages and howling shrieks in order to create an aura of hopelessness and the track is a great precursor to a record that features more of the same –- swirling winds, heightened tension and deadly fire. Davis’s impetus for bringing these songs together is to create an album “…dedicated to the majesty of the Night. No religions, no superstitions. Just magick for the eternal Dark.” Davis wants to be able to share Obscurae's music more widely, to make it more accessible than it was previously and to allow others a glimpse into the dark night as he sees it.
To Walk the Path of Sorrows will be released through American Decline Records (an imprint of American Dreams Records) on November 27 and can be pre-ordered from bandcamp now.
