Last year Kill Rock Stars celebrated 30 years in the biz with a year-long subscription featuring covers of label classics and deep cuts.
That series is now available on all platforms, as of Friday April 22, for everyone.
The label also shared news of a new roster addition, Your Heart Breaks.
Fittingly, they announced the news with another cover song: Your Heart Breaks takes on "Whatshisname Hearts the Frumpies" (originally by the Frumpies, who featured members of Bikini Kill, Bratmobile, and more).
Your Heart Breaks is Northwest musician, artist and filmmaker Clyde Petersen (they/he).
The queer indie-pop project began in 1998 and, per the press announcement, "getting a little bit weirder with every passing day."
Says Clyde:
It is hard for me to put into words what it means to join the Kill Rock Stars roster. Since I was a teenager, I have wanted nothing more than for Your Heart Breaks to be on Kill Rock Stars. It has been a life-long dream and to be honest, I am glad I had to wait for it. This will be my 10th full length album and I am a much better songwriter now than I was in 1998. Though the band has often been a solo songwriter endeavor in many ways, I’ve been lucky to collaborate with so many incredible people throughout 24 years of playing music and that will not be changing anytime soon. For this next album, I’ll be collaborating with a lot of my heroes from afar, including some KRS musicians, as well as a Northwest crew of musicians that I deeply admire and feel lucky to call friends. We’ll be returning to record and collaborate again with Nicholas Wilbur at his studio, The Unknown in Anacortes, Washington in May of 2022.
