Beth Seymour discusses "Medication"

Posted in Bands on February 14, 2025

Beth Seymour is back with new music and a full backing band too.

The new tune, "Medication," is a personal song that explores the artist's self-exploration as a transgender woman, previously performing as Luke Seymoup.

"Medication," by Beth Seymour & The Lizzies deals with ADHD, OCD and gender dysphoria.

“It can be embarrassing to feel like you’re wired differently to everyone else, and to feel as if you have to take medication just to be palatable to them,” Beth says about her experience. “It’s like a sense of jealousy. You think, why can’t I just feel and act like everyone else? But the other side is that, for a lot of us, our brain (which is supposed to be our ally) seems to be actively working against us. So, if taking my meds helps me persevere through the horrors of existence, I’ll gladly take them. You’re brave and powerful just for persisting.”

While Seymour has not released new music since 2023, she was actively writing and recording during that time.

She adds: “It’s freeing to finally be able to be transparent with what I’m writing songs about. There’s a lot of my previous music that I’ve been able to retroactively reveal was about my mental health struggles, particularly with gender identity, since coming out...It’s long overdue, but I’m thrilled to finally be here. It’s made me fall in love with making music all over again, and I’ve written and started recording so much music for all my bands."
