The singer of Against Me!, Tom Gabel, has announced that she plans to live as a woman after dealing with gender dysphoria for years, according to Rolling Stone. She plans to begin transition using hormones and electrolysis treatments, and will change her name to Laura Jane Grace in the near future. Her marriage to partner Heather will remain unaffected.
This is the first time that SPB can think of where a major music figure has "come out" as transgender and we're glad that Tom is raising awareness and braving public opinion. We wish her all the best.
