Adam Yauch - MCA of the Beastie Boys - was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland last week. The tumor was caught early enough and is localized in one area, and thus is considered treatable. The tumor will require surgery and several weeks of additional treatment. Fortunately the cancer is not in a location that will affect Yauch's vocal chords. As a result the Beastie Boys have cancelled all upcoming concerts to allow time for Yauch's surgery and recovery. The release of the band's forthcoming album, Hot Sauce Committee Part 1, will also be pushed back to a later date. A video statement from Yauch was posted on the band's website and can be viewed online here.
