Moody instrumental trio Automatic Candy has a new video we’re excited to premiere today: “Crockpot.” The song appears on the upcoming Amuse Bouche full-length album, and offers a hypnotic and hallucinatory rollercoaster of vibraphone, loops, and more, with a few jump scares along the way to jar you out of your dreamstate.
“The way this song turned out reminded me of being lost while in pursuit of something never-ending,” says Rob Heath. “Lost at sea, lost down a thought, the memories of being lost in a big city before having GPS in my pocket. So I decided to shoot a video endlessly ascending and descending a stairwell. The film acted as a blank slate for the music to superimpose tranquility, motion, anxiety, a tiny bit of terror and that state of being lost.”
Speaking more broadly about Automatic Candy, “Think American songbook melodies meets Milford Graves or a soundtrack to a David Fincher film,” the band says. “[We] pick up where Thom Yorke, Atticus Ross and David Hidalgo leave off.” Comprised of New York musicians Rob Heath, Kirk Schoenherr, and Ari Folman-Cohen, Automatic Candy is a fitting name.
“Crockpot” is the fourth video from the band's debut album, which is planned to release this year.
