Serge Nakauchi Pelletier (TEKE::TEKE – guitar)

SPB: You use a variety of instruments. Were there any mic challenges or unique studio setups to require the sounds you achieved on Shirushi last year?

Nakauchi Pelletier: I don't recall any “challenges” per se in terms of set ups or even choices of microphones. Obviously, you want the best option for each instrument as you are trying to capture the sound that translates into the right vibe for the song/ for the whole album. For that, we just entirely left it to our engineer, Seth Manchester who we trusted a hundred percent. One thing I remember is back home in Montreal where we did all of the vocal tracks with our friend, engineer Nicolas Petrowski, Maya tried a whole bunch of different mics until we found the one that was best suited for her singing style, which is very dynamic. I believe we ended up going for a Neumann M49 for most of the songs on Shirushi
