Chris Veinot (Talk Show Host)

SPB: Was any of the “Blood in the Sand” cat footage shot specifically for the video or was it all footage you previously had on hand?

Veinot: The only thing shot specifically for the video was the intro, with Maila (the big white marshmallow doofus) lounging like an idiot in front of the radiator. The rest of it was all shot over 6-ish years starting in December 2014, when I adopted her from a kitten rescue in Ottawa (adopt don’t shop!). I’ve got a folder on my backup hard drive that’s only cat footage and it has just recently crossed the 25GB mark, so I’ve got plenty left over for the sequel.

Disconnect/Disconnect, Wiretap Records (2021)

Talk Show Host is a power-pop group from Toronto. And while it’s chock-full of those pleasant, soaring melodies expected of the style, the band establishes its tone early, showing there are some teeth behind the smile with opening track “You Asshole!” Songs like the lead track, “Crisis Actors” and “Warmest Condolences” defy the idea that pop songs are empty, instead … Read more
