Declan (Snakeland - guitar)
SPB: What was your favorite band in high school and how do they influence your songwriting/playing style today?
Declan: I'm not sure I could pick one band, but for me that era was bookended by Against Me! is Reinventing Axl Rose and Oh! Calcutta! by The Lawrence Arms. I don't think Snakeland sounds much like either band, but those records put down some foundational principles that I learned a lot from. Both albums average under 3 minutes per track and leave everything on the field. The songs are deceptively simple, but there's a lot happening when you sit down and unpack them. Most importantly, both left a huge mark on the DIY culture we all came up with. From recording ourselves to printing our own zines and patches, that's part of Snakeland at the DNA level.
