Jason (Riot For Romance)
SPB: Were there any amps, cabs or anything else that stood out when you recorded the self-titled EP?
Jason: Something different for me than in past lives, is that I recorded my guitars from home for the first time ever. Previously, I've done scratch tracks at home but final recordings in a professional studio. After testing a few spots, I decided that the middle of my basement provided the best sounds.
It was a blast to test different guitar/amp pairings along with mics. My favorite combo was my Fender Jazzmaster through Fender Super Sonic using a fairly inexpensive AKG mic running through a Soyuz analog preamp. It's amazing how far technology has come, along with a good ear and incredible engineer for mixing, to achieve guitar tones that we're all happy with. Plus, there is something warm that translates from just being in my own home with symbols of my family surrounding me.
