Bryan (Powerviolet – synths/drums/programming)

SPB: What is the weirdest description you’ve heard of your music? Could you see where the comparison came from?

Bryan: Of course, we get the usual suspects -- M83, My Bloody Valentine, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark are at the top of the list -- but the weirdest and best I’ve heard was “Factory Records meets 4AD.” Those two iconic labels do a lot well, and I think the comparison is most apt in our desire to blend music and imagery in a way that gives our projects a discrete identity. We wanted WAVELENGTHS to connect with people on a visceral level, and to do that well, the entire project needs to have a coherent design philosophy. 4AD and Factory do and did that well, and Friend Club Records, under the deft hand of its creative director Rhys Meatyard, does it better than any indie label in the game. So maybe the 4AD/Factory parallel is not that much of a stretch, and I love that Powerviolet is being attached to those traditions.
