SPB: Noting that Terry Hall recently passed away, what is your favorite song by The Specials and what does it mean to you?

Kepi: My favorite Specials song may be an obvious choice, but “A Message To You, Rudy“ is my jam! It is ALWAYS in my head, so I am glad you asked!!

It is their “Blitzkrieg Bop”! So many of my friends have done it… it just reminds me of friends and good times… I also have a live version by Joe Strummer that always brings me up!

I never got to see The Specials until 2019 and I am so glad I did! Their previous tours always sold out instantly so in 2019 I bought a ticket no matter what, not knowing if I would be on the road or not… Well, I happened to be in town and the show was amazing and I am forever grateful that I got to see them!

Ramones in Love
Pirates Press (2023)

The (rightful) knock on many of the “old punks gone solo” is that it’s a person with an acoustic guitar, playing stripped down punk that kind of all sounds the same by the time the record ends. Add the concept of this record, a Ramones covers album, and you likely already expect a lot of that “sameness factor.” Ramones in … Read more
