Dead Waves

Teddy Panopoulos (Dead Waves)

SPB: Tell us about how you captured the sound on Abandoned Children.

Teddy: Like usual, we wanted to use everything we own on this new Dead Waves release and brought back some acoustic drums and percussion which our last release didn't have.

For the first picture, I have my Ancient Lyre - I got this in Greece years ago from a store that makes lyres and other ancient instruments. This lyre is a special one because it's the first time in recorded history around 500BC where they used a vibrato mechanism on a lyre and gave it 11 strings instead of the traditional amount. It's called the Kithara Lyre, and that's where the word guitar comes from.

The next picture we have Nick's guitar and our drum set, he only uses a Fender Jazzmaster electric guitar and only BOSS pedals because of his OCD he says. Also his guitar amp is a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. And also in the rehearsal space is our acoustic drum set, which is a 1980s Pearl World Series kit.

In this picture I have my Fender Mustang electric bass and Ampeg Classic series 4x10 cab and SVT-3 PRO amp head and my pedals next to it which consist of Electro-Harmonix, Earthquaker Devices, BOSS, and MXR.

For the last picture, I have my Fender American Professional Stratocaster with my Fender Deluxe Reverb Amplifier and my pedals next to it which consist of Electro-Harmonix, Earthquaker Devices, BOSS, and MXR. This is the first Dead Waves release where I added my own guitar in.
