The Copyrights

Luke McNeill (The Copyrights, Attorney)

SPB: Did you choose your band name partially because of your interest in law?

McNeill: No. It was actually a name we almost called me and Adam's old band, Moloko Plus. That name was a popular one for obvious reasons, and a dumb jazz band from Philadelphia sent us a cease and desist from using it, so we thought of Copyrights as an ironic name to change it to. We didn't pick that, but we picked that name soon after for our more "Ramones-based" punk band. It was almost required at the time to have a "The _____s" band name.

Alone In A Dome
Fat Wreck Chords (2021)

It’s been so long since The Copyrights put out an album that I kind of forgot they’re still active: seven years, according to the press release. But they’ve had a lot going on in that time (haven’t we all), dealing with personal and family issues and such. They returned last year with a big new record though, titled Alone In … Read more

Report
Red Scare (2014)

I like most of my music to have a pop bent. Yes, I like it rough around the edges and only mildly repetitive, which often rules out some of the biggest names that fall under ye olde “pop-punk” flag. Ramonescore, for the most part, just doesn’t motivate me like the actual Ramones did.But every now and again, a truly poppy … Read more

Like the Bible's steadfast conviction in the second coming of Christ, I knew this day would someday come. And goddamnit, it's here! Pop punk - real pop punk - has returned. While far too many bands are priding themselves convoluted songwriting, a whole new batch of bands - some old, some new - are popping up and proving that all … Read more
